West Side Stage


West Side Stage is the theatre club for Lee's Summit West High School. This club is not required participate in any shows, but is a place where fellow theatre-lovers can come together for fun activities throughout the year. The fee to join is $50 per person and can be payed to Mr. Rackers no later than September 3rd, 2021. By joining West Side Stage, you will receive tickets for shows at Lee's Summit West, Lee's Summit North, Lee's Summit High School, and Ruskin High School. Also, with your membership you receive a free WSS shirt, plus the opportunity to participate in our many activities such as our pool party, holiday parties, and more! A West Side Stage membership is a requirement if you wish to letter in theatre. 

West Side Stage Activities

West Side Stage activities include a variety of entertaining and fundraising events. Regardless of their purpose, they are always a great opportunity to spend time with other West Side Stage members and have fun! Below is just a few of our WSS and required lettering events.

 Car Wash @ HyVee Gas 
One attendance at a car wash is required to letter for the school year. Members get the chance to have fun cleaning cars, meet new people, and spray those who oppose you with hoses. This year's car wash will be held on Saturday, August 29th. 

Selling Coupon Books 
You must have one fundraiser to letter You must sell at least 3 for it to count. You have one hour to call and sell coupon book to people to earn prizes per amount of books sold. This year's coupon book fundraiser will be held on Tuesday, September 15th.

TOTS Eat
This is required to letter as well. Tots eat is a can/non perishable items fundraiser for children in need. You are assigned a neighborhood to ask for cans on Halloween night, and then bring them back to the designated LSR7 high school (this rotates each year). After you drop off your collected cans, you are invited to stay for a Halloween party with the other high school theatre groups. Which ever school collects the most cans wins! This fundraiser occurs Halloween night. 

2nd Car Wash @ HyVee Gas 
If you missed the first car wash, you can attend this one to you still have a chance at lettering. If you attended the first one you are still welcome to come and have a good time. This year's second car wash will be held on Saturday, May 4th.

 Theatre Awards
The theatre awards are to announce who lettered, what shows are on the bill for next year, announce the new WSS officers, and give awards that celebrate the best in technical theatre and acting over the course of the year.  You don't want to miss it! 

Mainstage Shows


This year, Lee's Summit West is producing 4 main-stage shows: 

One fall Play in August (Mousetrap by Agatha Christie)
​

One musical in the winter  (Into the Woods)

And two plays in the spring (The play that Goes Wrong and Fahrenheit 451)

​In order to audition for Mousetrap and  The Play that Goes Wrong, you must be enrolled in a 

Student Directed One Acts


In April, Juniors and Seniors will have the chance to direct their own show that will consist of freshman and sophomores plus anyone who hasn't been in a mainstage show before. The shows range from 10-20 minutes and are completely produced by upperclassmen. 

Lettering

 Each year students are awarded a letter in theatre to show their commitment to the craft of theatre and their service to the community.  Lettering forms are completed by the West Side Stage Treasurer and a student's progress can be viewed anytime through the WSS Google Classroom.
